About Sianah’s Hearty Recipes

Hello, I’m Sianah Nalika DeShield, a wife, mom, novelist, blogger, and full-time chef to my husband and kids (whether I like it or not!). Around here, food isn’t just something we eat; it’s how we connect, laugh, and create memories together.

Sianah’s Hearty Recipes was born from my love of home — the smells, flavors, and traditions that shaped me. Every dish I share carries part of Liberia, seasoned with stories, family memories, and plenty of love. These are the same recipes that fill my kitchen with laughter, my children’s plates with wholesome comfort, and my husband’s face with that “one more bite” smile.

As a mom of toddlers, my goal is to give them meals and pastries that are both delicious and nourishing. Most of my baking recipes are almost sugar-free — just enough sweetness to surprise you, without overdoing it. You won’t believe how good they taste until you try them!

Being Liberian, rice is a staple in my kitchen, so here you’ll find endless ways to enjoy rice without getting bored. Okay… maybe not literally 365 ways, but you get the idea!

This blog is for people just like you, those who believe food should be heartfelt, flavorful, and made with care. Whether you’re craving something nostalgic, exploring new twists on traditional recipes, or just looking to bring more warmth to your table, you’re in the right place.

A heads-up: if you’re after carb-free recipes, this probably isn’t your scene. We love our carbs, meats, and plenty of fish. They’re good for us. Processed foods? Not so much. Everything here is made from scratch, with love.

The happiest time for me – with food in my kitchen!

So, welcome to my kitchen. Pull up a chair, grab a spoon, and let’s share a little love, one hearty recipe at a time. ❤️
